Getting started

Create a nation, settle land, and build enough grain and tools to supply its residents.

Join the game

Hegemony is a strategy game played through Discord commands. Players govern nations on a shared map of counties. Counties produce grain, ore, and tools; nations collect taxes, trade, and fight over neighboring territory.

During the closed beta, Hegemony is temporarily restricted to the official Hegemony Discord server. Hegemony will be globally available after the closed beta. Use the Discord link on the homepage to join the official server.

To join an existing nation, run /me and give its Head of State your account ID for an appointment. To start your own nation, follow the steps below. Each player can hold one government seat.

1. Found a nation

Run /found and enter an unused nation name. You become Head of State with 10,000 gold and no counties. You can perform every national action without appointing ministers.

The founding panel offers Choose your first county. Select it to browse unclaimed land. You can also open this list with /frontier.

/found name: Xertunberg

2. Settle your first county

Select a county from the frontier list to inspect its terrain and elevation. Use the page controls to browse more counties. Your first settlement can be anywhere; every later settlement must share a land border with a county you own.

Choose Settle county to pay 1,000 gold and take ownership. The county has 1,000 residents and produces some grain even before development. Your treasury is now 9,000 gold.

Look for nearby grassland and a county at least 500 m high. Grassland grows more grain; high ground yields more ore. You will need separate counties for different specializations.

3. Develop the county

Run /county, select your holding, and choose Farm · grain, Mine · ore, or Town · tools. Each button displays its price. The first level costs 500 gold.

This choice is permanent. Further development raises the same specialization, up to level 10. Farms add grain. Mines add ore. Towns consume ore to make tools. A town with no domestic or imported ore produces no tools.

Roads and institutions are separate buttons in the county panel. You can build them later; first check what goods your nation needs.

4. Check supply and collect taxes

Run /economy. Under Goods, compare grain produced plus imported with grain consumed. Then compare tools made plus imported with tools consumed. Food coverage and tools coverage show the share of household needs met.

Some shortages are expected while you establish your first counties. A farm alone cannot supply tools; a town needs a mine or ore imports. Use /trade if another nation can supply the missing good.

Production taxation starts at 20%. Collectable gold grows as time passes. Use Collect taxes or /collect to transfer it into Treasury, where you can spend it. The receipt reports the amount and resulting balance.

One real second advances ten game seconds. Goods are rates of production and consumption, without stockpiles. Panels show a snapshot; use Refresh or reopen the command to update it.

Example: three counties supplying each other

If the frontier permits it, settle three connected counties: a high-elevation mine, a town, and a grassland farm. Build one level in each. The table is a budget for that example, without roads, policies, trade, or further upgrades.

At 20% production tax and no devastation, these counties produce about 2.394 grain, 0.764 ore, and 0.462 tools per game second. Their households need 1.800 grain and 0.315 tools; the town needs 0.370 ore. Both household coverage figures reach 100%.

The terrain you find may require a different plan. Use your actual county and economy panels to decide whether to develop, settle, or import.

Settlement failsCheck treasury and that the county is still unclaimed. After the first settlement, it must share a land border with your territory.
Development failsCheck ownership, treasury, specialization, level cap, and office permission. Collectable taxes must be collected before spending.
Town produces no toolsCheck ore extracted plus imported against industrial demand. Build a mine or arrange ore imports.
Collection is zeroCheck that you own land and have a positive tax rate. Allow time after the last collection, then refresh.
